Promote biodiversity and safeguard ecosystems.
Make a donation today and your support will grow Native Habitat, a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to CA native plants. Each year we hand harvest CA native plant seeds to grow hyper local, genetically diverse CA native plants. We are the non profit arm to Dr. Appleseed's Organic Elderberry Supplements.
Dr. Appleseed’s Elderberry directly supports pollinators.
Our mission: To support US grown native elderberries, a key pollinator plant. We empower individuals, communities, and agencies to plant native elderberry on private, public and agrarian lands.
This year’s project: Regional Wild Seed Collection and Germination of Local CA Native Elderberries
A particularly challenging plant to grow from seed, we’re working on developing and documenting the best practices for West Coast native elderberry propagation. Visit our blog series devoted to sharing our findings. Hundreds of native elderberry, the results of our germination project, are being donated to native land projects, individuals, and communities.
Native plant habitat is climate resilient, drought tolerant, edible and medicinal.
In 2023, we have a goal to raise $3,000.00 for a seed cleaning machine that sorts the seed from the chaff quickly, allowing us to supply more nurseries with vital wild seed stock. Did you know CA conservation efforts are in need of CA native seeds, particularly ethically hand harvested, hyper local wild seeds?
If you need a donation receipt letter for tax reasons, please write a note in your product cart or shoot us an email.
Nicole Schlumberger of Wild Iris Seed Co. and Dr. Catie Morse of Dr. Appleseed's are collaborating to germinate hundreds of native elderberry plants from wild seed. 2023 brings a wild harvest of 15 more native species' seeds and hopes to expand our pilot program to include 1,000's of CA native plants for donation to local organizations and landowners.
Thank you so much for supporting our efforts!
